Tenno

A typical village rich in history and culture

The historic hamlet of Tenno, on a morainal terrace on the southern slopes of Monte Misone, is one of the many hamlets that have maintained their original Medieval features over the years. The area features a significant historical and cultural heritage, which includes the small frescoed church of S. Lorenzo, the Medieval hamlet of Canale, and the archaeological site of San Martino. At the  beginning of the town, coming from Riva, is the ancient castle of Tenno (built in the 12th century) on the top of a rocky crag, at the foot of which is the ancient hamlet of Frapporta still enclosed within its circle of walls. At Canale di Tenno is a centre of great cultural interest, the Casa degli Artisti "Giacomo Vittone", founded in 1968 by the painter Giacomo Vittone. It is an old restored farmhouse used as a venue for conferences and summer courses, as well as a residence for artists and art school students, and where visual art exhibitions are held, by the masters of both yesterday and today. At Canale di Tenno is a permanent exhibition of farming implements.
